Black History Month is a time to reflect on the contributions of Black people throughout history. But it should also be a time for us to look at how we can ensure Black people have the space and support they need to succeed today and in the future. I look back on my own leadership journey and remember the times when, despite my education and experience, I wasn’t necessarily given a warm welcome. My perseverance kept me going, but the journey was made easier with the support of allies and mentors. Our students need allies and mentors, too, so they have the best opportunity for success.
