This week, I met with participants in AACC’s John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute and the Future Presidents Institute. They are smart, savvy, and eager to lead. As I said in a recent column, the time has come for the next generation of leadership. It’s up to us to make sure they’re prepared, through mentorship and by offering professional development opportunities, such as FLI and FPI. Congrats to our latest classes of Roueche-FLI and FPI.
“Year-Round Pell Could Help Community Colleges”
The resumption of year-round Pell Grants, scheduled for July, could help offset the enrollment declines many community colleges are experiencing, according to Moody’s Investors Service. Read more in Inside Higher Ed.
“House Passes Bill to Reauthorize Perkins”
The House has passed legislation to reauthorize the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) Act that is similar to a Perkins bill it passed last year. Get the details in CC Daily.

ACE’s American College President Survey
Public associate degree-granting institutions have the highest proportion of women and minority presidents of any type of higher education institution, according to a new survey of U.S. college and university presidents. Other findings: Funding remains a key issue for most college and university presidents; also, 12% of presidents indicated that using institutional research to inform decision-making was a future area of importance.
Community College Journal Wins Award
AACC’s Community College Journal was honored in a national competition for trade publications. Of the hundreds of submissions in the Best Single Issue category, CC Journal took 8th place. The 2017 Tabbie Awards had more than 400 entries, with nominations coming from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore and South Africa.
