Last week, AACC hosted a convening of the Modernize Candidate Recruitment and Training Practices Working Group on May 16. The working group is part of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board (AWPAB), which was created to advise the White House’s National Council for the American Worker. Meeting attendees included corporate leaders and officials from the White House, government agencies and business groups.
AACC takes seriously its role to help colleges prepare individuals for jobs that provide family-sustaining wages. Further, as we look at the 2022 jobs outlook and review the list of skills where growth is anticipated, we are keenly focused on the Future of Work. With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of things (IoT), and robotics, AACC has been engaged in important conversations about how to bridge virtual and live experiences in the workplace and is looking at how to marry these emerging technologies with the workforce for tomorrow. Having a seat at the table during these meetings allows us to work across sectors to ensure that our nation’s workforce is prepared. That’s going to have a positive impact for students, employers, and local communities.
Have a relaxing and safe Memorial Day Weekend!

My wife, Dr. Aileen Bumphus, and I attended the May 11 commencement ceremony of San Antonio College. AACC Board Member and San Antonio College President Robert Vela hosted an outstanding event with over 1,100 graduates. Coincidentally, Aileen and I were also in attendance to celebrate the graduation of our youngest son, Brian. We appreciate the great support and services provided to him by San Antonio College.
