Earlier today in the Community College Daily, we announced a significant partnership between AACC and the U.S. Department of Labor, which will result in training 16,000 new apprentices over the next 3 years. This partnership speaks to the confidence that the department has in our sector to deliver on the promise of dramatically increasing the number of apprentices entering the workforce. Community colleges are well-known for providing high-quality, affordable, inclusive, flexible, and industry-relevant registered and/or industry-recognized apprenticeship programs to the communities that they serve. To that end, we are extremely excited to launch this initiative with 80 community colleges from across the country to advance this workforce priority. In the coming weeks, AACC will release criteria for the 80 colleges which as a minimum will include having a proven track record of success in the apprenticeship space. We will continue to keep you updated on this project as it advances.

AACC/AASA Convening
AACC and AASA, The School Superintendents Association, will host a convening of community college and K-12 leaders March 24–25, 2019, in Washington, DC, to discuss college and career readiness for the nation’s students. Critical to advancing high-impact, collaborative strategies to improve and expand bridges between secondary and post-secondary education, the convening will capture promising practices from K-12 and community college partners.
