AACC President and CEO Walter Bumphus, along with ACCT President and CEO J. Noah Brown, has written a letter of endorsement for the Pell Grant Preservation and Expansion Act to the House and Senate sponsors of the bill. The legislation would enhance the Pell Grant program in a number of ways long supported by AACC, including increasing the maximum grant and indexing it to inflation, providing eligibility to Dreamers and individuals incarcerated in federal and state prisons, and extending the lifetime eligibility limit from 12 to 14 semesters. The bill also makes Pell Grants a full entitlement program and extends eligibility to certain short-term programs. The legislation is intended to lay out Democratic priorities for the Pell Grant program as Congress debates reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
