Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) utilizes its long-term relationships with regional manufacturing industries to act as a consistent resource. Our ability to successfully engage with businesses has fostered a relationship which has allowed us to be a trusted advisor during the coronavirus pandemic. We have developed a variety of resources and offerings we regularly share with businesses in our network. MVCC’s Advanced Institute for Manufacturing has conversations with businesses throughout the Mohawk Valley Region to meet the current needs of employers. Rather than giving a sales pitch, we engage in conversations to address their needs and long-term workforce solutions.
Most recently, we are providing easily accessible virtual solutions for training needs through our Virtual Maintenance Technician Academy and self-paced learning modules. These presentations address the basic needs of employers in a safe, reliable, and high-quality manner. Some of the topics covered include Leadership and Communications, Shop Math, Blueprint Reading, OSHA Safety, and—currently being developed—Basic Electricity, Machining, Welding, and HVAC. The transition to virtual and remote training solutions has been critical to our success. The manufacturing industry is a fast-paced environment. Training and consulting solutions offered to the industry must be equally as fast. The remote, self-paced educational modules that MVCC created has been adopted by our manufacturing partners and has yielded measurable impacts. Our methodology of customer driven responses is the key to successfully engaging businesses with real solutions.
Mohawk Valley Community College is also designated as the Mohawk Valley’s Regional NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Center. This designation provides related funding to connect with the region’s manufacturing partners and offer workforce development and technical training programs and services. It is within this working environment that MVCC has established very strong relationships with the manufacturing businesses in the six-county region. MVCC is widely considered the “go-to” resources for regional employers.
