A full one-third of community college students transfer to a 4-year institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree, increasing their professional opportunities and earning potential. Creating seamless pathways to transfer that maximize credits and keep students on track to completion is an important goal. Transfer that is clearly outlined, consistent in acceptance of credits, and predictable allows students to progress most efficiently. Some states are working towards a system of statewide transfer so that public, state institutions of higher education must accept credits earned at public community colleges.
