As you know, the House Labor, HHS and Education appropriations subcommittee released its FY 2018 appropriations bill yesterday. Information is in the “Must Know” section. While specific funding details aren’t available yet, know that AACC will continue to monitor this and all other developments on Capitol Hill that affect our institutions, and we’ll keep you informed.

The House Labor, HHS and Education appropriations subcommittee released its FY 2018 appropriations bill. The bill level-funds current Pell Grant appropriations and maintains the maximum grant of $5,920. However, the subcommittee would rescind $3.3 billion from the Pell Grant surplus, which totals $8.5 billion for FY 18. The bill also level-funds Perkins CTE and Adult Education programs. On July 12, AACC and ACCT submitted opens in a new windowjoint comments on the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) proposed negotiated rulemaking process on gainful employment and borrower defense repayment regulations. Following a review of the comments, ED will announce the specific topics to be addressed by the negotiated rulemaking committees as well as a request for nominations for individual negotiators for the committees. This document will be posted on the department’s website.
