Last week, about 80 transfer professionals met in Chicago as part of the Equity Transfer Initiative (ETI). AACC is proud to lead ETI, in collaboration with AASCU and APLU. ETI aims to increase transfer rates for African-American, Hispanic, Native-American, adult, and first-generation learners. This first meeting of ETI participants proved that, though there are challenges, we’re on the right track to improve equitable transfer.
We’re going into a holiday weekend. To all the fathers and those who have taken on the role of father, I wish you a happy Father’s Day. And on June 19, we are observing Juneteenth. It’s a meaningful day for many of us and I’m glad it’s getting the recognition it deserves.
“Bringing Disconnected Youths Back”
U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh wants to use work-based learning opportunities such as apprenticeships to re-engage students who left school during the Covid pandemic and get them on a career path. The challenge is reaching them. Learn more in CC Daily.
“Developing a Bilingual Workforce”
Walters State Community College will offer a new Spanish certificate this fall, designed for students who are already part of the workforce. Read about it in the AACC 21st Century Center blog.
Registration is open for the Presidents Academy Summer Institute (PASI). Join us in Dana Point, California, July 9-12, for the Presidents Academy Summer Institute. PASI is an annual professional development program for CEOs and presidents of member community colleges, providing intensive focus on current challenges, emerging trends, and opportunities unique to that position.
