July 9, 2021 | Issue # 191
I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. This week, I was pleased to see some familiar faces in person: The AACC staff is back in the office. The pandemic isn’t over, but it feels as though we’ve turned a corner. We also will start hosting some in-person meetings this year, including the annual board orientation in August and the John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute this fall (see “Must Do” for details).
Members of the House Ways and Means Committee on June 29 discussed what tax changes could encourage students to attend and complete college, especially low-income students. Witnesses speaking at the Oversight Subcommittee hearing had a simple answer: Keep it simple. Read about it in CC Daily.
“Increasing Their Global Impact”
Hudson Valley Community College’s Global Classroom High School Program is reaching students around the world with online courses. Learn about it in the AACC 21st Century Center blog.
Welcome to the New AACC Board of Directors Members
On July 1, the new AACC board term began. Eleven people are starting their terms on the board. I look forward to welcoming them personally at our next board meeting. You can see the full board line-up here.
AACC’s John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute (FLI) and Future Presidents Institute (FPI) will be offered October 5-7 in Washington, DC. Roueche–FLI serves mid-level community college administrators looking to advance into a senior leadership role. FPI is for senior leaders aspiring to the community college presidency. Is there someone on your staff who could benefit from this type of professional development? Consider sending them to Roueche-FLI or FPI.
