This week, AACC issued a statement denouncing the acts of racism, hate, violence, and injustice happening across the nation. But it’s more than a statement; it’s a call to action. I believe we all are committed to working toward solutions. This work will not be easy or quick. It likely will be uncomfortable. Do not let that stop you or slow you down. When the news cycle moves on, don’t let that be an excuse to move on from this work. Stay vigilant.
AACC is here to help you, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

“Faculty Leadership During a Crisis”

AACC Board of Directors Update
This week, I participated in our first virtual AACC Board of Directors meeting. Everything ran smoothly, in a large part due to the leadership of our current Board Chair Dr. Alex Johnson. Dr. Johnson did a masterful job of guiding us through the agenda and the board’s business. He had to conduct the board’s business virtually, and we thank him for his service. Dr. Johnson would have presided over the AACC 100th Anniversary celebration, which was cancelled earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While his chair responsibilities shifted, he has continued to be a strong leader and advocate for the nation’s community colleges. On July 1, we will welcome El Paso Community College President William Serrata to the role of chair. And, we congratulate Austin Community College President Richard Rhodes for being elected as chair-elect. A full announcement including all newly elected and appointed board members will run in Monday’s CC Daily.
