It’s commencement season—a time of caps and gowns and pomp and circumstance. For our graduates, commencement ceremonies mark an ending and a beginning and are a celebration of hundreds of hours of hard work and sacrifice. For all of the students receiving certificates and degrees, there were people at the college guiding them on their journey to this moment. As presidents, you may not know each student at your college individually, but your good leadership played a critical role in getting them one giant leap closer to reaching the American Dream.
Americans continue to hold community colleges in high regard, with 81% of respondents to a New America survey saying they are worth the cost. Check out all the relevant findings in CC Daily.
Community college systems are making foster youth a priority. Read about it at the AACC 21st Century Center.
Invest in yourself this summer by attending the Presidents Academy Summer Institute (PASI). Join AACC in Dana Point, California, July 21–24 for this professional development opportunity. PASI is for CEOs of community colleges, providing intensive focus on current challenges, emerging trends, and opportunities unique to that position.
Are there any mid-level administrators at your institution who could benefit from leadership development? Send them to the AACC John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute, (Roueche-FLI). It will take place June 24–27, 2018, in Washington, DC. Funding is available to help cover the cost of the institute. Know any senior leaders aspiring to the community college presidency? Send them to Future Presidents Institute (FPI), also taking place June 24–27. The registration deadline for both is June 8.
