It was great to see so many of you at PASI this week. Having those few days to recharge and have open and honest discussions is so important. I hope you returned to your campuses feeling ready to take on the new semester. I encourage new and seasoned CEOs who have never taken advantage of this professional development opportunity to do so in 2018.
“Bill Would Expand Services for Veterans”
AACC and five other higher education organizations are supporting a House bill that would strengthen and expand higher education benefits for veterans and their families. The House Veterans Affairs Committee passed the bill on July 19. Read about it in CC Daily.
The Voluntary Framework of Accountability is helping colleges track more students, giving them a clearer picture of outcomes. Learn more at the 21st Century Center.
AACC Will Issue Call for Proposals on August 15
AACC will formally issue its Call for Proposals for the 98th Annual Convention on August 15. Proposals will be submitted based upon interest areas, and whether the content is designed for someone with limited, intermediate, or advanced knowledge of the subject matter. Please visit the AACC website on August 15 for additional details.

Ted Mitchell to Lead ACE
Ted Mitchell, who served as under secretary of education from 2014 to 2017 under the Obama administration, was named as the new president of the American Council on Education. He will assume the post on September 1, replacing retiring Molly Corbett Broad, who has led the council since 2008.

Are you coming to Washington, DC? Let us know. AACC is happy to help facilitate meetings for you on Capitol Hill, with federal agencies, and with editors from Inside Higher Ed, Chronicle of Higher Ed, and AACC publications. One of our rural college presidents, Sandra Massey from Arkansas State University-Newport, was recently in DC and took this opportunity for constructive meetings.

On July 18, I attended a meeting with Rep. Brett Guthrie at the Rayburn Office building.
From July 22 to 25, I attended the annual Presidents Academy Summer Institute meeting in New York City.
On July 26, members of the AACC leadership team and I hosted doctoral students from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor at the association’s office.
