Greetings from Newport Beach, California. This week, I’m attending AACC’s Workforce Development Institute, along with college leaders and community college partners in business, philanthropy, and the federal government. From the presentations that I attended, it is clear that community colleges will continue to play a critical role in training our nation’s workforce. I’m proud of the work being done at our colleges to close the skills gap and keep America competitive.
At Maricopa Community College, students and faculty are more engaged in teaching and learning in courses that use open educational resources (OER), which are free or low-cost teaching and learning materials, and students are more likely to complete degrees faster. Learn more about OER in Community College Daily.

The Hail & Farewell Luncheon is the association’s opportunity to bid farewell to retiring CEOs and hail new and 25-year CEOs. Held during AACC’s annual convention luncheon program on April 23, 2017, Hail & Farewell (H&F) is a celebration of leadership. The deadline for submitting your materials is March 3. Individuals that have registered for the New CEO Academy must still complete the H&F form to participate in the luncheon recognition. So, if you’re a new CEO, you have been a CEO for 25 years, or you’re retiring, let us know so that we can celebrate your milestone. Submit your form today!
On January 23, several AACC staff members and I met with representatives from Drexel University to discuss partnership opportunities.
