Austin Community College District’s (ACC) Character Education Communities of Inquiry expanded in fall 2026 and brings together faculty as it relates to the community college experience from across disciplines to explore how colleges can intentionally cultivate intellectual, civic, and moral virtues through teaching and learning.
The Character Education Initiative at ACC is about recognizing that strong general education teaching already develops students intellectually, civically, and ethically. This initiative is attempting to build the community, tools, and structures to do that work more deliberately, across disciplines, and over time.
Faculty in the yearlong program will participate in collaborative learning communities, peer observations, and professional development focused on integrating character education principles into the classroom experience.
