Delta College, MI – promising practices in OA States
One of the things that Delta College does and does well, is to make it easy for our community partners that have registered apprentice programs.
We start working with our employers even before they have their programs registered. We can provide them with Generic Curriculum for over a dozen skilled trades. From these Generic Curriculums we help them pick and choose classes that meet their goals so that they have a custom program.
We can also assist them in finding students that may have already started training on their own. Once they have identified an apprentice, the Skilled Trades office can handle the apprentice application to Delta College and guide them through the placement testing.
Then we make recommendation for each semester as to which classes each apprentice should be enrolled in and these are sent to the employer. Once our recommendations are approved by the employer, we handle the registration of each apprentice. If requested by the employer, we will send out weekly attendance reports and at the end of each semester we always send out final grades.
If an employer is “company pay”, Delta College will invoice the company two or three weeks after classes have started.
Delta College has worked very close with the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship to have our classes approved for RTI. All of our Electrical classes are also approved by the State of Michigan for apprentice electricians.
