- How do I complete the ATE Future Leaders Fellows application?
Applicants fill out an online submission form, which includes uploading a resume or CV, two letters of recommendation, and a professional headshot. The application fields are outlined as part of the Request for Applications (link to RFP PDF). Mailed or emailed documents will not be accepted. - When is the application deadline? The deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m. local time, Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
Eligibility
- What are the eligibility requirements to be an ATE Future Leaders Fellow? Individuals interested in applying to be an ATE Future Leaders Fellow must currently serve as an employee of an AACC member college; be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident; and have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a faculty member, administrator, or staff in a community college, preferably in a STEM-related field.Applicants should also demonstrate knowledge of the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Technological Education (ATE) program by having direct experience working on an ATE grant within the past five (5) years, such as serving as a Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, grant team member, and/or providing administrative oversight.
*New (as of 3/27)* AACC will consider applications from employees of nonmember colleges that demonstrate exceptional ATE experience and commitment to STEM technician education. Preference will be given to individuals from member colleges; but individuals from non-member colleges may still apply. - How can I find out whether my institution is an AACC member college?
Use the Community College Finder on AACC’s website to see if your college is a member. AACC member colleges have an AACC logo next to their name. You may also email ate@aacc.nche.edu to ask AACC staff to check on your institution’s membership status. - I work in STEM technician education, but I do not have experience with the National Science Foundation’s ATE program. Can I still apply?
As part of the criteria for being selected as an ATE Future Leaders Fellow, applicants must have experience working on an NSF ATE grant within the past five years, such as serving as a Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, grant team member, and/or providing administrative oversight. - I am a new ATE PI; am I eligible to apply?
If your first ATE grant was awarded in FY2023 or earlier, you are eligible to apply. - I submitted an NSF ATE grant in October 2024. If I was recently awarded funding or if I am waiting to hear if I have been awarded, am I eligible to apply?
If you have direct experience working on an ATE grant within the last five years you are eligible to apply. If you submitted your first ATE grant in October 2024, you are not eligible to apply at this time. The ATE Future Leaders Fellows program seeks to help increase overall exposure to and understanding of the NSF ATE program and its resources, which requires ATE grant experience. If interested, we strongly encourage you to consider applying to a future round of this program.
Program
- How long is this program commitment?
ATE Future Leaders Fellows will serve for a period of one year, beginning May 19, 2025 – April 20, 2026. - As an ATE Future Leaders Fellow, participants are required to attend one of AACC’s Leadership institutes. What is the difference between AACC’s John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute (FLI) and AACC Future Presidents Institute (FPI)?
FLI is a 3-day seminar designed for department chairs, deans, assistant/associate deans, or directors who look to advance into a senior leadership role. FPI is a hands-on 3-day intensive program designed for senior leaders aspiring to the community college presidency. Applicants will be asked to select which institute they would prefer to attend based on their experience and career goals. More information regarding these programs can be found here. - The website for AACC’s Future Leaders Institutes also has an application process. Do I need to complete a separate application for the AACC’s Future Leaders Institutes (FLI/FPI) in addition to the ATE Future Leaders Fellows program application?
Applicants to the ATE Future Leaders Fellows program only need to complete the Fellows application found here. If accepted as an ATE Future Leaders Fellow, applicants will also be accepted and registered for FLI/FPI. Further details will be provided upon Fellow notification. - What is the cost of participating in the ATE Future Leaders Fellows program? There is no cost to participate in this program. If selected, Fellows receive full travel and registration support to attend required events and invited dissemination events and opportunities.
- Can I participate in the ATE Future Leaders Fellows program if I am already participating in another leadership opportunity?
Participation in another leadership opportunity does not preclude you from applying. Please indicate your involvement in other leadership program(s) on your application and ensure there are no conflicts with required events. As an ATE Future Leaders Fellow, you are required to attend the AACC’s John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute (FLI) or AACC Future Presidents Institute (FPI) being held June 2-4, 2025, in Washington, DC.
