Meghann was a Medical Assistant student attending Arapahoe Community College’s (ACC) Fall 2020 apprenticeship program. Due to COVID 19 and an inability to find childcare, she could not meet her work commitments or attend classes during the fall term. Compounding these challenges, Meghann was also diagnosed with breast cancer while going through the program. These circumstances would discourage just about anyone, but Meghann persevered. She was determined to complete the program and do it well. Through their partnership with Centura Health, ACC was able to extend Meghann’s educational program and she could continue her studies during the Spring 2021 Semester. She returned to the program in January of 2021, eager to learn and be a role model for her children. Since January, she has excelled academically and professionally, and in February 2021, Meghann was the top-scoring student from her cohort on the certification exam for Medical Assistance called the CCMA.
