Accrediting Agencies
Program Integrity and Institutional Quality Committee (January 2024 to March 2024)
Description: The Department of Education intends to make changes to its regulations guiding the process of recognizing accrediting agencies for Title IV approval and other purposes. In this rulemaking, ED is proposing changes to ensure the standards agencies use to assess the quality of education programs are “sufficiently rigorous.” ED also seeks to “support and strengthen accreditation as a critical pillar of the regulatory triad.”

State Authorization
Program Integrity and Institutional Quality Committee (January 2024 to March 2024)
Description: State authorization regulations govern the Title IV requirement that eligible institutions must be considered legally authorized by the state in which they operate. The Department of Education intends to make changes to two aspects of these regulations: exemptions from state authorization requirements and reciprocity agreements (better known as NC-SARA).

Cash Management
Program Integrity and Institutional Quality Committee (January 2024 to March 2024)
Description: The Department of Education has proposed a number of changes to the rules governing the procedures that institutions must follow when issuing and managing Title IV aid. Among the six proposed changes to how institutions disburse funds are a $100 increase in the amount of current year funds that may be credited against prior year charges and an elimination of the provision that allows institutions to include the cost of books and supplies as a part of tuition and fees.
