The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced the creation of a new $100 million Youth CareerConnect Grant program to provide high school students with the education and skills needed to succeed in today’s high-tech economy. Funded with revenues from the H-1B visa program, this competitive grant initiative is expected to support between 25 and 40 single or multisite collaborations between high schools and colleges, workforce system entities and industry partners. A 25% match is required and applicants are expected to provide rigorous academic and technical curricula, work-based learning opportunities, mentoring, individualized career counseling, and training. This grant solicitation builds on the administration’s goal to redesign the high school experience as reflected in its Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) blueprint for reauthorization. The application deadline is January 27, 2014.
