AACC encourages community college presidents and nursing faculty to register to attend in person or by telephone and/or submit testimony for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Initiative at the Institute of Medicine (IOM) forum scheduled for December 3, 2009 at the Community College of Philadelphia. The IOM will provide a web component for telephone attendees to allow viewing of slides presented at the forum. The agenda for the forum indicates speakers will focus on "Community Health, Public Health, Primary Care, and Long-Term Care." [Federal data indicate nearly half (47%) of RNs caring for patients in long-term care settings practice with the associate degree.] The forum will include a 5 p.m. "Open Microphone Listening Session: Vision for the Future of Nursing," during which participants in the audience will have an opportunity to make impromptu comments based on what they heard throughout the day and what their vision is for the future of nursing. Most recent federal nursing data is included in the AACC 2008 Health Professions Brochure. Presentations and an archived webcast from the October 19 Future of Nursing forum are available (under "Other Meeting Resources") on the IOM Web site.
