The Veterans Administration is currently accepting applications for the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP). VRAP offers up to 12 months of training assistance to 99,000 unemployed veterans that are between 35 and 60 years old. The first block of 45,000 spots will be filled from July 1 to September 30, 2012 and another 54,000 will be filled in the next federal fiscal year, which starts October 1. Each block of applicants will be on a first come, first served basis. Eligible participants will receive up to 12 months of training assistance at the full-time payment rate under the Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty program (currently $1,473 per month). The Department of Labor will offer employment assistance to every veteran who participates or applies to the VRAP program.
