House Approves Perkins CTE Reauthorization Bill

Yesterday, the House passed by voice vote legislation reauthorizing the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) Act. On May 17, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce approved unanimously its bipartisan bill, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, H.R. 2353. The measure is similar to the one overwhelmingly passed by the House last year.

This House bill would reform the Perkins CTE Act, but would retain much of its current structure. It would update accountability measures, aligning them more closely with those authorized under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. It also would provide for greater collaboration between colleges and businesses. To date, there has been no action in the Senate on Perkins CTE legislation.
