U.S. Colleges Form Partnerships with Indonesia

From the Community College Times
6/14/2013

Indonesia has a growing economy and burgeoning middle class, but its higher education system is not up to the task of training workers for all the new jobs being created. That makes the island nation especially attractive for partnership opportunities with U.S. community colleges.

While several community colleges are participating in exchange programs, the Lone Star College System (LSC) in Texas is going a bit farther: It's developing a two-year education program in Indonesia, which is expected to open this fall with 300 students.

The program, based on the Lone Star model, is being carried out in partnership with the Indonesia-based Putera Sampoerna Foundation and would be attached to a new university, Universitas Siswa Bangsa Internasional (USBI), in Jakarta.
