Auto Communities and Community Colleges Meeting

January 27, 2010 ... in Conjunction with WDI

It is no secret that many of the Midwest communities dominated by the auto industry are experiencing enormous economic stress. The dislocation and uncertainty being caused by the changes in this industry vibrate throughout our communities. Those of us leading the community colleges that serve this important industry know the intense pressure that is upon us. We must find alternatives for our communities that will lead to sustainable employment. We need to support economic growth with local strategies that fit the specific needs of each of the communities we serve. Our attempts would be increased substantially if we could learn from each other, incorporate our best practices and seek federal help for the problems we face.

Thus, Macomb Community College, with support from The Brookings Institution and the Automotive Manufacturing Technical Education Collaborative, are organizing a meeting of community college presidents and workforce development leaders in auto communities to discuss the ways in which we can more effectively serve our communities throughout this economic recovery.

Please contact Gerri Pavone at 586.445.7990 or at pavoneg@macomb.edu for more information about this very important meeting.
