General Convention Questions

When and where is the 2014 AACC Annual Convention being held?

The 2014 AACC Annual Convention will take place at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC, April 5–8, 2014.

What is the dress code for the convention?

Business dress is suitable for all sessions. We recommend bringing a light sweater or jacket as the meeting rooms are air conditioned.

Monday evening’s Awards of Excellence Gala is black tie optional.

What is the weather like in Washington, DC, during the meeting dates?

In the month of April, it will be spring in Washington, DC. During this month, you can expect the average high to be 67 degrees. The average low for the month is 42 degrees. April can be a rainy month and the pollen count can be high. Prepare by bringing a jacket and an umbrella.

Is there accessibility for persons with disabilities?

The Marriott Wardman Park hotel is an ADA compliant hotel allowing stress-free access to facilities for persons with disabilities. The hotel offers accessible guestrooms that have a 32-inch wide opening and all major spaces within the hotel are accessible. These spaces include the fitness center, the main entrance to the hotel, the pathway to the registration desk, the business center and all meeting spaces, entrances to the pool, and all restaurants and lounges. The hotel offers onsite accessible parking, accessible routes to hotel rooms, and self-operating lifts. Service animals are allowed in the hotel.

This is my first time attending AACC’s Annual Convention. What can I expect?

Outside of having the opportunity to explore the great city of Washington, DC, you can expect to learn about various strategies, plans, and tactics that industry professionals have used to help community colleges thrive. The focus of this year’s convention is Great Expectations and how to implement a 21st-century student success agenda at community colleges. Overall, AACC's Annual Convention offers you professional development as well as the opportunity to network, share, and learn from professionals in the fields of education, business and industry, and government. Our exhibit hall offers a variety of services and products to bring innovation to your campus and students.

Registration Questions

How do I register?

Registration can be completed online, by fax, or by mail.

What are the registration rates?

The registration rates for the annual convention are listed on the Registration page. All member and non–member rates include access to all concurrent sessions, the exhibit hall, the opening session, and meal events.

I am a graduate student. How do I register?

The graduate student rate is $400 and is not available online. The graduate student rate includes access to all concurrent sessions, the exhibit hall, and the opening session. Meal tickets for graduate students are available for an additional fee. It is recommended that you purchase meal tickets in advance as they may not be available onsite. Meal ticket prices are available on the graduate student registration form. Students must be enrolled in a certified education program and be in good standing. Can I bring my spouse?

Yes, you can bring your spouse.  If your spouse does not wish to attend any convention events, they do not need to register.

If your spouse would like to attend the meal events only, you may puchase an extra ticket when you register yourself.

If your spouse plans to attend convention sessions and events the spouse registration rate for members is $400. If you are a non-member, the spouse registration rate is $450. Both member and non-member spouse rates include access to all concurrent sessions, the exhibit hall, the opening session, and meal events.

What meals are included with the registration rate?

The member, non-member, and spouse/guest registration rates include the following meals:

  • Hail and Farewell Luncheon - Sunday, April 6, 2014
  • Awards of Excellene Gala Dinner - Monday, April 7, 2014
  • Outstanding Alumni Brunch - Tuesday, April 8, 2014

The day registration rate for Sunday includes the following meal:

  • Hail and Farewell Luncheon - Sunday, April 6, 2014

The graduate student and onsite registration rates, and the day registration rate for Monday do not include tickets for meals. Meal tickets can be purchased separately in advance.

I'm unable to register online. Who can I contact?

When does early bird registration end?

Early bird registration ends January 13, 2014.

When does registration end?

Registration (online and mail) has been extended to March 7, 2014.

Will onsite registration be available?

Onsite registration will be available and is $950 per person. Onsite registration includes access to all concurrent sessions, the exhibit hall, and the opening session. Meal tickets may or may not be available onsite.

If I can't attend the entire convention, what are the registration options?

You can take advantage of our day rates; see rate list below.

The Sunday day rate includes access to all concurrent sessions, the exhibit hall and the Hail & Farewell Luncheon.

The Monday day rate includes access to all concurrent sessions and the exhibit hall.

Monday Day Rate (member): $350
Monday Day Rate (non-member): $400

Cancellations

I need to cancel my registration. What should I do?

All cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing to the mailing address below. All refund requests must be received by March 3, 2014.

Cancellation and refund requests received prior to March 3, 2014, will be honored, minus the cancellation fees below. Approved refunds will be processed after May 31, 2014.

Substitutions

A colleague of mine is unable to attend the convention. Can I make a substitution?

All substitution requests must be made in writing to the mailing address below. Substitutions can be made at any time.

Which hotel will be the headquarter hotel for the 2014 AACC Annual Convention?

The headquarter hotel of the AACC 2014 Annual Convention is the Marriott Wardman Park (MWP) hotel. All convention programming will take place at the MWP.

How can I make a hotel reservation and what are the rates?

Reservations can be made online or by phone. To reserve by phone, call 1-877-212-5752 and reference “AACC 2014 Convention.” To reserve online, visit the Hotel and Travel Web page and follow the booking instructions.

Is the hotel pet friendly?

Yes,the hotel is pet friendly. Pets are allowed on hotel premises for a non-refundable sanitation fee of $50 USD. For more information on the hotel’s pet policy, please contact the hotel directly.

Will I have wireless internet access in the hotel?

Wireless internet service is available throughout the Marriott Wardman Park hotel. Complimentary wireless service is available in the lobby and all public areas.

Is there a business center at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel?

There is an onsite business center in the hotel. The business center provides copy services, fax services, messenger services, network/internet printing, notary services, translator services, and mailing/shipping services, and is available to all guests of the hotel. The business center is staffed.

What are the convention overflow hotels?

The 2014 will be using several overflow hotels.

Transportation and Travel Questions

What are my transportation options for the 2014 AACC Annual Convention?

As an attendee, you can arrive via car, Metro, air, or train. Visit the Transportation page for details.

Are there any travel discounts available for convention attendees?

Yes! AACC has partnered with Delta Airlines to offer attendees discounts on applicable airfares, and with Amtrak to offer convention attendees a $10 discount off the best available rail fare to Washington, DC. Visit the Travel Discounts page for details. 

What is the closest airport to the Marriott Wardman Park hotel?
