Writer & Executive Producer

Winifred Hervey has been an "expert daydreamer" since her childhood of incessant reading. It was at Allan Hancock College, however, that Hervey learned she had a knack for transforming her fantasies to film.
For the past five television seasons she has been creating The Steve Harvey Show for the Warner Brothers Network. The half-hour situation comedy set in Chicago recently won its second Image Award from the NAACP.
As the show’s creator, Hervey is the chief writer and executive producer. Television situation comedies give writers a rare level of control over their work. "You get to realize your vision. You’re in charge," she said. "It is a position of power few women of color have achieved."
After working for nearly two decades as a professional television writer (Laverne and Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Benson, and The Cosby Show) and producer (The Golden Girls, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Hervey happily declares she has "the best job in the world. It’s kind of like going to camp every day, because you write it and they build it."
