Syllabus and Course Design
Service learning components and expectations should be featured in any course syllabus or related outlines and handouts. A publication from Campus Compact, "Service-Learning Course Design for Community Colleges," includes sample course descriptions, detailed models, syllabi, and ready-to-use tools. See www.compact.org.
AACC's "A Practical Guide for Integrating Civic Responsibility into the Curriculum" includes three syllabus analysis and course design exercises that can be useful in a faculty development workshop setting.

Course Templates
The following templates from AACC's project, Make It Personal: College Completion, are intended for adaptation and use by community college faculty. Each template includes standard features such as academic objectives, pregnancy planning/prevention objectives, preparation, materials, assessment, and service learning activities. Faculty teaching the courses found that students were more engaged in their learning and recognized the importance of pregnancy planning/prevention to complete their college goals.
