 Tarrent County College Resolution 

WHEREAS, the governing board of the Tarrant County College Distrtict is fully committed to the values of open access and opportunity for all and fully understand the value of an educational environment that embraces diversity and inclusiveness; and

WHEREAS, the year 2004 marks the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education U.S. Supreme Court decision - a landmark for equity in public education reversing the long-standing separate-but-equal doctrine that had governed public education, including community colleges; and

WHEREAS, access to and diversity in higher education will continue to be of increasing importance to the State of Texas because of the changing ethnic demographics of the State's population; and

WHEREAS, the Tarrant County College District has been in the forefront of the implementation of Closing the Gaps: A Higher Education Plan for Texas, promulgated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, through a proactive system of outreach, by limiting increases in tuition and fees, and by increasing access to higher educaiton through tuition and fees practices in keeping with state law regarding undocumented residents;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that on the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision, we, the Board of Trustees of the Tarrant County College District, pledge our unwavering commitment to providing equal and unfettered access to higher education. Enacted this 19th day of February, 2004.
