Program Description

Students self select to develop a one-to-one relationship with faculty and staff who serve as mentors.

Mentees and mentors are asked to maintain regular (weekly) contact via telephone, email, and in person meetings.

Mentors support their mentees by discussing short and long term goals, academic progress, along with awareness of academic support and other campus resources.

The Rites of Passage Mentoring Program, formerly known as the Minority Achievement Program was established in 2006 to improve the academic success, graduation and transfer rates for students of color.

Program Funded

The Rites of Passage Mentoring Program is supported with college funds.

College President and Administrators Involvement

All levels of administration supported the mentoring program with the president, several vice presidents, staff, and faculty volunteering as mentors.

Program Success Story

"It gave me a lot of experiences and connections that I may not have had, had I not been a part of the program. I got a chance to see and be a part of many discussions that helped me become a critical thinker, which is very helpful as a college student."
