Program Description

Male Mentoring Empowerment Group (M.M.E.G.) is a North Carolina 3m state program based on the campus of Craven Community College. The mission of this program is to develop and cultivate leaders in the school and community through post-secondary education. As a group we want to develop our students by providing education, training, job skills, and communication skills to better help our students to be prepared for a global workforce and corporate diversity. Program Initiated

In 2006, Daniel Colvin (Dean of Craven's Early College) to help fight the retention rates and increase graduation at the community college level. Katrina Bishop then took over advisory duties and lead MMEG to three straight Craven Club of the Year Awards and multiple personal awards for the members.

Program Funded

The program started out funded by North Carolina "Minority Male Initiative" but has been funded for the last three years by our college receiving club funds and fundraising.

College President and Administrators Involvement

Our President has praised our program, and hopefully this year the school will included this much needed program in the school's budget.

Program Success Story

The M.M.E.G. group has provided many success stories in Craven County. M.M.E.G. has sent students from it's program to Memphis University, St. Aug, Shaw University, and North Carolina Central University. MMEG has attended the Edmund Pettis bridge crossing in Selma, Ala and the Michael Basiden "One Million Mentor Tour". MMEG also, has been Club of the Year at Craven Community College for the last past three years.
