Program Description

The program has 3 components:

1). B2B Learning Communities for minority males are paired classes that consists of either Math/English or the College Survival Skills SLS Student Life Success course.

2). Encourage Broward--A mentoring program of 100 Successful African American Male mentors from business and industry that pair with Black male students at Broward College.

3). The Council on the Social Status of Black Men in Boys--Broward College has the only local chapter of this State initiated program.  The council consists of black males employees who have agreed to create programs and opportunities for success for Black males students.  The programs in place today have been created from the introduction of the council.

Program Initiated

The program was initiated by using instititutional data. The college determined that purposeful interventions needed to be developed to improve the success rate of these students.

Program Funded

B2B is funded by Fund 1 a direct college resources fund and Fund 2 which is a Student Activity Fee resource.

College President and Administrators Involvement

One of the college's current Board members is a founding member of the State Council on Black Men and Boys.  Our President charged the College to be one of the first Colleges to create a local council.  The President designated the VP of Student Affairs as the Chair.

Program Success Story

Everyday is a student success story.  Our students are so excited that someone cares about the status of black male students.  There can be no one story that is mentioned over others.
