Based within the Academic Diversity Initiatives of the University of Texas-Austin's Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, Project MALES (Mentoring to Achieve Latino Education Success) aims to create and cultivate a support network for Latino male students at UT-Austin, within local school districts, and throughout the surrounding community. Program Initiated

Project MALES is an initiative housed under UT-Austin's Division of Diversity and Community Engagement. Project MALES was created to address the issue of the "vanishing" Latino male in higher education. Through community outreach and working with students both at UT and in local high schools, Project MALES addresses the educational attainment and persistence issues young men of color face.

Program Funded

Project MALES is funded through institutional and grant funds. As part of the University of Texas-Austin, Project MALES receives funding from the Division of Community Engagement. Project MALES has also received funds from Texas Guaranteed loan corporation, Google, and a number of other additional local and national grant resources.

College President and Administrators Involvement

Project MALES is lead by UT-Austin Assistant Professor, Dr. Victor Saenz. In his capacity, Dr. Saenz reports directly to Dr. Gregory Vincent, UT-Austin's Vice President for Diversity and Community Engagement.

Program Success Story

By virtue of participating in Project MALES, undergraduates have developed a greater sense of awareness on the growing issue surrounding Latino males in higher education. This has empowered these young men to participate and take action both during their time as undergraduates and post-graduation.
