The Virginia Community College System invites applications and nominations for the position of President of Eastern Shore Community College. Founded in 1971, Eastern Shore Community College is located in Melfa, Virginia, and serves a rural, two-county population of 53,000 people on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Within the ESCC service region is a major NASA R&D facility where many local citizens are employed.
Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Chesapeake Bay on the west, laced with creeks and inlets, the Eastern Shore peninsula is a boating and fishing paradise. The blend of colonial history, agriculture, national parks, a network of small communities, marinas and local seafood restaurants all contribute to the relaxed Eastern Shore lifestyle. While offering the quiet charm of country living, it is approximately a three-hour drive to Richmond, a 1-2 hour drive to Norfolk/Virginia Beach and historic Williamsburg, and just over a four-hour drive to Northern Virginia and D.C., with all their attractions.
A comprehensive community college with an annualized FTE enrollment of 542 and headcount of 1,215, ESCC offers 9 degree programs, including 2 with specializations, and 15 certificate programs.
The College is a leader in adapting technology to education and pursues a robust program of distance learning and cooperative agreements with other state and federal institutions. The College has seen enrollment increase 22% over the past 3 years. ESCC is the major higher educational resource and the only institution of higher education with a physical presence within its service region. In addition, approximately 45% of the student population receives financial aid.
Qualified candidates will have an earned doctorate and demonstrated successful senior executive experience at the highest levels with significant responsibility for programs, budgets, personnel and other appropriate administrative duties. An understanding of the mission and goals of a comprehensive community college in the 21st Century and experience in a rural setting with underserved at-risk population segments are preferred.
The candidate must be energetic, have proven management skills and excellent communication skills.
The successful candidate must possess a clear commitment to excellence and technological innovation in education as well as a background of demonstrated support for regional economic development and workforce training. The candidate must have a broad vision for academic leadership, together with the skills and commitment for its implementation. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to work with business, industry and governmental bodies and to interact with a diverse community and student body. In addition, the candidate will have the skills to continue and expand previously successful fundraising and marketing initiatives. Experience with the implementation of innovative support programs to improve student recruitment and student success is also required.
The salary range is $122,464 to $159,193.
