Vice President for Student Affairs
Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) is the oldest of the 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, now observing its 65th anniversary. MVCC is sponsored by Oneida County and has campuses in Utica and Rome, NY. Approximately 450 faculty and staff are employed at the College. MVCC’S budget is approximately $47 million. The College offers extensive remedial/developmental instruction, as well as English as a Second Language courses, serving a diverse immigrant community. MVCC features a growing array of online courses and current enrollment in credit bearing instruction is approximately 5,700 FTEs.
THE POSITION: The Vice President is responsible for leading the Student Affairs Division in the promotion and support of student learning and success; serving as a collaborative member of the College’s cabinet to develop and support a vibrant organizational culture, that insures an efficient and effective working relationship with all other divisions and offices of the College; and providing direction and support for all Student Affairs staff in efforts to foster an environment conducive to student development and academic success.
The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of comprehensive student services, as well as background in planning, developing and implementing process, and successful college-wide communication practices. The College is advancing the importance of strategic planning processes to guide resource allocation. The successful candidate will be a team-minded leader who advances initiatives by taking ownership of the process and plan; will be forward thinking, innovative, and consistent in his/her leadership style; and will have knowledge and past experience in further integrating student affairs with the entire college.
Refining efforts to create a one-stop center for students at both campuses will be a priority for the next Vice President, as well as developing and implementing a student retention plan. Using research and data to make decisions will be central to the work of the next Vice President for Student Affairs.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in student personnel or equivalent discipline and progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education student affairs required.
Doctorate in student personnel or equivalent discipline; community college experience; residential student housing experience; mediation skills; experience with strengths-base leadership; experience with implementing research-based student affairs initiatives; teaching experience; experience with learning communities preferred.
Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to adapt to a variety of interpersonal situations; knowledge of and commitment to the goals and mission of the community college and the ability to interact with a diverse student body and staff.
