Dean of Instruction

Brief Description of Job: As the Chief Academic Officer of the College, The Dean of Instruction reports directly to the President of the College, serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet, provides leadership for the campus deans and administrators of the academic units, library/resources, adult education, continuing education, distance education, workforce development, and Office of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness. The Dean of Instruction participates in the decision-making process on topics such as employment practices, facilities planning and design, and budgeting. Additionally, the Dean represents the College at appropriate community functions related to the College.
Bevill State Community College’s service area (4600 square miles in Northwest Central Alabama) stretches from the westernmost city limits of Birmingham to the Mississippi border. The College serves parts of seven counties and has four well established campuses in Fayette, Jasper, Hamilton, and Sumiton, as well as a sizable instructional site in Carrollton. The College offers a full array of educational programming and emphasizes both transfer and technical programs. Bevill State Community College’s distinctive offerings include a Mining Technology Program which serves over 8,000 Continuing Education students and the Associate Degree Nursing Program which is ranked among the top 50 producers of Associate Degree Nurses in the country. The College serves approximately 4,700 credit students in the Fall and in the course of a year over 10,000 continuing education students. The budget for the instructional area of the college is over $16,000,000.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements include a Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline from a regionally accredited institution, a minimum of three years full time teaching experience at the collegiate level, preferably in a community college setting, and a minimum of three years of responsible experience in administration or academic affairs in higher education. An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution and demonstrated recent administrative success at a comprehensive community college are highly preferred.
