Founded in 1961, Massachusetts Bay Community College, known as MassBay, serves the academic needs of over 6,000 students from surrounding communities. The College offers academic preparation for transfer to four-year institutions, career preparation for entry into high demand professions, job retraining, and lifelong learning opportunities. Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, the Director of Financial Aid provides leadership and effective management to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, efficient processing of approximately 5,800 financial aid applications, and the disbursement of over $11 million in financial aid funds. The Director conducts statistical analyses, generates timely and accurate reports, and coordinates financial aid audits for internal, federal, and state agencies. The Director creates, implements, and evaluates financial aid systems and processes, coordinates comprehensive services for students and the campus community, and provides leadership in building a cohesive and responsive financial aid team. Responsibilities also include developing and managing student information system software and databases (PowerFAIDS and PeopleSoft), and improving efficiencies and procedures within the department. The Director provides supervision, training, professional development opportunities, and evaluation for six staff members. As a key member of the College community, the position requires the Director to work collaboratively with numerous campus departments, students, parents, faculty, and other stakeholder groups.
The successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree is preferred, and demonstrate progressive and broad experience in student financial aid administration. Candidates must have comprehensive knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to the administration of student financial aid, current automated financial aid management software, federal needs analysis methodology, and financial budgeting. The successful candidate must also possess excellent leadership and problem-solving skills; the ability to develop, motivate, and manage staff; a strong understanding of, and proficiency with, technology; demonstrated success collaborating within all levels of the institution; knowledge of current trends and best practices in financial aid administration; and a strong commitment to client service.
