PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Vice President for Instruction is the chief academic officer for the College and is responsible for the overall vision and direction of the academic programs and instructional delivery, including strategic planning, assessment, accreditation, program development, instructional technology, budget management and the recruitment, assessment, and development of the faculty.   The instructional area includes all disciplines taught at the College, as well as community (non-credit) education, special instructional projects, workshops, library services, media services, tutoring/testing and student disability services.  Also functions as the primary instructional/program liaison with Oregon State University Cascades Campus ands its cooperating higher education partners.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND TASKS:

  Essential Job Functions

 

1.   Provide innovative academic leadership for all educational programs.

2.   Develop and maintain a vision for the College’s growth in quality programs and services that integrates traditional and new curriculum and delivery methods.

3.   Coordinate and sustain collaborative leadership with the President, the Board, the Vice President for Administration, CFO, Dean of Students and other administrators as appropriate in accomplishing the educational mission of the community college as expressed in the mission statement.

4.   Play a leading role in strategic planning, curriculum development, assessment, evaluations, and the use of quality improvement techniques.

5.   Provide successful involvement with initiatives that provide on-going professional development of both new and continuing faculty and staff.

6.   Provide budgeting and resource allocation in collaboration with academic department chairs and senior administrative staff.

7.   Supervise the activities of the instructional deans, all academic departments, the Director of the Library and an Administrative Assistant.

8.   Integrate technology throughout the curriculum.

9.   Provide innovative and insightful leadership to the academic community and strengthen partnerships with institutions, organizations, businesses, and individuals that enhance the College’s reputation and academic ties to the community. 

10. Function as the primary instructional/program liaison with Oregon State University Cascades Campus ands its cooperating higher education partners.

11. Responsible for the development of the master class schedules.

12. Provide guidance and leadership for the in-service training of the faculty and of those staff members responsible to the Vice President for Instruction.

13. Assist in the selection of new faculty with the advice of the Deans and the Department Chairpersons; determine the recommendations for employment to be made to the President.

14. May serve as the executive officer of the college in the absence of the President.

15. Assume other duties and responsibilities as requested by the President.

8.   Proficiency in organizing and managing complex systems and in problem solving.

9.   Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

10. The ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, staff, the Board, and external audiences.

11. Ability to demonstrate a record of openness and accessibility to faculty, staff, and students.

12. Ability to foster an atmosphere of trust and collegiality within the College community.

13. Demonstrated support for the delivery of academic programs beyond the residential campus.

14. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.

 

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS

All individuals are required to be able to perform essential functions without significant risk of injury or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential listed above.

 

 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  

1.   Earned doctorate in a discipline related to the mission and programs of the College

2.   Minimum five years experience as a full time faculty member.

3.   Minimum 3 years experience in progressively responsible administrative position in Higher Education.

4.   Minimum 3 years experience in a community college.

5.   Requires experience in partnering with multiple constituencies and evidence of effective decision-making, communication, conflict resolution, collaboration, and facilities skills. 

6.   Experience and ability with shared governance approaches to collective bargaining.

7.   The successful candidate must have a commitment to Affirmative Action and to a diverse educational environment.
