Job Description

South Seattle Community College The Seattle Community Colleges Chancellor invites applications for the president of South Seattle Community College. The district is the largest in the state, serving 52,000 students at three comprehensive colleges, a training institute and four specialized training centers. The combined student body is the most diverse in the state, representing more than 80 different first languages spoken in homes across Seattle. The city’s geographically beautiful setting is home to 600,000 residents and is a center for art, entertainment, sports and the Puget Sound Region’s vibrant culture of entrepreneurship and innovation. President South Seattle Community College South Seattle Community College serves a multicultural population of 15,000 students each year from an 87-acre, wooded campus in residential West Seattle, and satellite campuses in the nearby neighborhoods of Georgetown and Beacon Hill. South offers one of the state’s first four-year degree programs at a community college, and is distinguished by innovative offerings such as Wine Technology. A Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Hospitality Management launched in 2007 is the only one of its kind in western Washington. The wine studies program features an on-campus winery – unique to western Washington – where students are creating award-winning wines. Program areas include college transfer, professional/technical career training, distance learning, basic and transitional studies, and lifelong learning. The main campus and the Georgetown Campus have become architecturally vibrant with new buildings that support both student learning and sustainability goals. The ongoing pursuit of the college is to combine its high student diversity with high student success. In 2008 South received a two-year, $2.4 million federal grant to support student retention and success, with a special focus on Asian-American and Pacific Islander students. South is one of only six recipients in the country, including both two-year and four-year institutions. The Board of Trustees selected the recent past president of the college to serve as the district Chancellor. The position is open until filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by February 12, 2010.
