VICE PRESIDENT FOR WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
The Kansas Board of Regents invites nominations and applications for highly qualified applicants to fill the position of the Vice President for Workforce Development. The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents is the governing board of the state’s six universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions (six state universities, one municipal university, nineteen community colleges, and six technical colleges).
The Vice President for Workforce Development will serve as the Executive Director of the Kansas Postsecondary Technical Education Authority which is a 12 member board appointed to oversee a program of work for technical education for the Kansas Board of Regents. In that capacity, the Vice President provides overall leadership and management for technical education matters for the state’s system of postsecondary education, and serves as the key technical education advisor for the Kansas Board of Regents and its President/CEO. The person in this position serves as a member of the President/CEO’s senior staff and is responsible for internal Board of Regents technical education matters. The Vice President maintains the highest level of knowledge about postsecondary education of institutions within the Kansas higher education system representing the Authority and the Board on postsecondary technical education matters as appropriate with government agencies and other organizations and with the general public.
A master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Administration, Career Technical Education or related field is required. Relevant experience in a management team role is also required. The successful applicant must also possess exceptionally well-developed oral and written communications skills, along with effective interpersonal abilities. Strong planning and strategic thinking skills are essential for this position, as is the ability to manage large and complex systems and initiatives. Finally, the successful applicant must have the capacity to work effectively with a wide range of constituents including business and industry leaders, governing boards, higher education leaders, governmental agencies, community groups, and the general public.
Experience with the legislative process and in working within the framework of a board structure is among the preferred qualifications for the position. The Vice President for Workforce Development should also possess the demonstrated capacity to work with private industry leaders. Finally, a successful candidate should understand current postsecondary technical education issues, both at the state and national levels.
Salary range is $120,000 to $135,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
