The Board of Trustees of the Maine Community College System invites applications and nominations for the position of President of Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC), located in Bangor, the major commercial and cultural center for eastern and northern Maine.
Accredited by NEASC, EMCC serves over 2,500 students and has grown every year since 2005. The college offers over 30 programs of study leading to two-year associate degrees and one-year certificates.
Since 2010, the college has participated in Achieving the Dream (ATD) – a national nonprofit dedicated to helping more community college students earn college credentials. Last year it was one of 16 community colleges nationwide selected as an ATD Leader College for its significant commitment to improving student success and closing achievement gaps.
As a first priority, the Board of Trustees seeks a President who has the ability, commitment and vision to continue the college’s significant progress in enhancing student success. The Board also seeks a President who can lead EMCC during a period of changing student demographics and as the college expands its role in economic and workforce development and places an increased emphasis on the delivery of high quality education and training. The President has the responsibility of institutional leadership, long-term planning, and fostering an environment that is conducive to learning.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate outstanding skills in performance-based education and training, strategic planning, and communication, as well as success in team building, participatory management, and the implementation of economic development strategies. In addition, candidates must possess: a master's degree, with an earned doctorate preferred; a combination of administrative, teaching, or management experience; and a proven leadership record.
A review of applications will begin on August 28, and will continue until the position is filled with an expected appointment no sooner than January 2016. Application materials should include a cover letter that addresses how the candidate’s background and abilities meet the criteria set forth in the job posting and that includes a statement of the candidate’s management and educational philosophy (cover letter not to exceed 5 pages), a resume, and a completed MCCS applicant information sheet, (http://www.mccs.me.edu/wp-content/uploads/Applicant-Information-Sheet-7.15.15.pdf ) and should be sent to:
