Minnesota State Colleges and Universities invites applications and nominations for president of Northland Community and Technical College.
Northland Community and Technical Collegeseeks a visionary leader to work with college faculty, staff, students, and the community in an energetic pursuit of its mission.
Northland Community and Technical College is a comprehensive college with campuses in East Grand Forks and Thief River Falls, Minnesota, offering a range of certificates, diplomas and degrees for those looking to quickly join the work force or transfer to a four-year university. The college has recently launched two new aerospace programs that are the first of their kind in the entire nation, Unmanned Aerial Systems and Imagery Analysis. A strong liberal arts department, with five associate degree programs, prepares students for transfer into four-year programs.
With solid roots in two northwestern Minnesota communities, the college as it exists today is relatively new, dating from the 2003 merger of Northwest Technical College in East Grand Forks and Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls. Each institution brought a long history of serving the needs of area students and employers in the Red River Valley and northwestern Minnesota.
The two main campuses are located about 50 miles apart. A third facility, the state-of-the-art Aerospace Campus, is located at the Thief River Falls Regional Airport. A satellite campus is located in Roseau, about an hour north of Thief River Falls. In addition, as a partner in Distance Minnesota, Northland is a leader in online and hybrid learning.
Northland Community and Technical College is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system (MnSCU). With 24 two-year colleges and seven state universities, MnSCU is the largest provider of higher education in the state of Minnesota. Under the leadership of Chancellor Steven Rosenstone, MnSCU is committed to ensuring access to an extraordinary education for all Minnesotans; being the partner of choice to meet Minnesota’s workforce and community needs; and delivering to students, employers, communities, and taxpayers the highest value, most affordable option.
Reporting to the chancellor, the president of Northland Community and Technical College serves as chief executive officer responsible for leading the faculty and staff in fulfilling the college’s mission. The president serves on the system’s leadership council, which consists of the chancellor, the chancellor’s cabinet, and the 31 college and university presidents. As a member of the leadership council, the president contributes to the overall direction of the nation’s fifth-largest system of higher education.
The successful candidate will be a strong leader and proponent of the community and technical college missions, with a demonstrated commitment to student success. While progressive responsibility in higher education administration is desirable, comparable experience in business, government, etc. will be considered. A terminal degree is preferred but not required.
