Overview: Riverland is a comprehensive community college with campuses in Austin, Albert Lea, and Owatonna, Minnesota. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean provides leadership and management for the Arts, Humanities and Social Services Division departments including Philosophy, English, World Languages, English for Academic Purposes (ENAP), Speech, Developmental English, Reading, Writing, Art, Theater, Music, Anthropology, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice, and Human Services.  The Dean provides academic leadership to support student learning, assessment, and quality improvement initiatives;

provides leadership in guiding, planning, implementing, evaluating, and modifying division programs, processes, services, and operations in alignment with the College's mission, values, and strategic priorities as well as instructional standards and procedures, and institutional policies and procedures; works with faculty and student services leadership to identify and address division and college issues related to promotion of retention and student success.

 

*Responsibilities:

Ø  Work with faculty and student services leadership to identify and address division and college issues related to promotion of retention and student success.

Ø  Provide leadership and support for innovation, responsiveness, and excellence in division courses (including online), programs, processes, services, and operations.

Ø  Provide leadership, vision, and direction for high school to college and college to university transfer pathways and programs including strong academic advising, including review and continuous improvement efforts.

Ø  Provide input on institutional vision, strategic planning, assessment, accreditation activities, development of instructional standards and procedures, and direction for instructional programs, enrollment, and student services. 

Ø  Support internal and external collaboration.  

Ø  Support and provide division leadership to promote the strategic priorities of the College and System.

Ø  Monitor programs to ensure compliance with applicable accrediting bodies and regulatory requirements. 

Ø  Provide daily operational management, supervision and divisional coordination for job assignments, project management, planning, monitoring and developing budget, consulting with division and campus personnel on issues and projects, problem solving, and communicating issues and priorities.

Ø  Support and facilitate the development and review of programs and services, schedules, etc. 

Ø  Direct and supervise employees, including recruitment, development, credentialing, support, and evaluation, and recommend and implement personnel actions.

Ø  Resolve escalated issues related to students, managers, faculty, and classified staff within the division. 

Ø  Actively contribute to a work environment that embraces diversity and diverse perspectives and builds constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect.

Ø  Facilitate a cooperative and committed culture that supports efforts to establish and accomplish individual, department, division, and College goals.

Ø  Build and maintain effective lines of communication with students, faculty, classified staff, managers, College departments, community partners, and the public on behalf of the division and the College.

 

 

Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree; three years of college-level teaching experience (or comparable teaching experience); successful experience as a supervisor and leader at the program, unit (department), or division level (or comparable); knowledge and experience with a wide range of college curriculum and the use of technology; demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and management skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Doctorate degree

Multilingual or multicultural background or experience working with underserved populations.
