Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) invites applications and nominations for president of Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM).
Minnesota State University Moorhead seeks a visionary leader to work with university faculty, staff, students and the community to accomplish its mission of promising all students the opportunity to discover their passions, the rigor to develop intellectually and the versatility to shape a changing world. A recently completed strategic plan focuses the academic experience around being the partner of choice to meet Minnesota’s workforce and community needs.
Named a Top 10 College Town (Livability, August 2011), Moorhead, MN, and Fargo, ND, are central to a thriving regional center. Higher education is a major community enterprise, with more than 26,000 students contributing to an atmosphere rich in arts, culture, sports and social activities. The core of the Fargo–Moorhead metropolitan area has a population of approximately 200,000 and is growing. The cities enjoy a major concert venue; independent and community theatres; symphony orchestra; jazz concerts; film festivals; civic opera; art galleries and museums; and numerous family attractions and events, including professional basketball, professional baseball and the annual Fargo-Moorhead Marathon. Named the third best place in the nation to raise kids by Children’s Health magazine in 2009, Moorhead public schools serve 5,739 students in an area recognized for superior student academic achievement and far-reaching extracurricular activities. The Fargo-Moorhead community is ranked among the best places in the country to live, work, attend school and conduct business.
The University offers 76 undergraduate majors with 172 different emphases and options, 9 pre-professional studies programs, 10 graduate degree programs, and 11 graduate certificate programs. The majors include 19 areas of teacher licensure preparation. The professional programs are grounded in the liberal arts, designed to provide a broad base of knowledge and cultural themes. MSUM enrolls approximately 7,000 students from 37 states and 56 countries. In recognition of the inherent value in having a diverse faculty, staff, and student community, MSUM is actively seeking to recruit students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds to the university. Further, MSUM is part of the Tri-College University, an educational consortium that includes Concordia College, a private college in Moorhead, and North Dakota State University in adjacent Fargo, North Dakota.
Minnesota State University Moorhead is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. With 24 two-year colleges and seven state universities, MnSCU is the largest provider of higher education in the state of Minnesota. Reporting to the chancellor, the president of Minnesota State University Moorhead serves as chief executive officer responsible for leading the faculty and staff in fulfilling the university’s mission. The president serves on the system’s leadership council which consists of the chancellor, the chancellor’s cabinet, and the 31 college and university presidents. As a member of the leadership council, the president will contribute to the overall direction of the nation’s fifth-largest system of higher education.
The ideal candidate should possess experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in higher education administration or other extraordinary leadership experience at a large complex organization. This candidate will also have an appropriate combination of education, training, and experience that includes extensive expertise in program and curriculum development, fundraising, government relations, accreditation process, and budget and fiscal management. A doctoral degree is strongly preferred.
