OBJECTIVE: The Vice President of Academic Affairs is responsible for the leadership and supervision of all assigned college-wide academic credit, selected non-credit and technical instructional programs. Works in collaboration with the Vice President of Allied Health Sciences for instructional programs within their assigned area. This position also provides evaluation of academic programs and standards, overall maintenance and management of academic operations, student support services, faculty utilization and continuous faculty improvement. Ensures College’s compliance with SACS, THECB and other regulatory agencies. Responsible for sustaining a collaborative environment characterized by academic and professional excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Provides administrative leadership, supervision, goal setting, planning, problem-solving, evaluation and personnel management to all areas within the Division of Academic Affairs including: Academic Deans, Academic Technology Services, Distance Learning, Library Services, Academic Dual Credit, Director of Faculty Professional Development, and the Learning Center.
Assures availability of properly credentialed faculty to meet curriculum delivery requirements.
Complies with SACS, THECB and other regulatory agencies. Serves as liaison to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for academic areas.
Coordinates with VP Allied Health Sciences and deans in the recruitment, selection, coaching, retention and evaluation of a variety of diverse faculty and staff. Makes recommendations for hiring faculty with input from the deans, college faculty and staff.
Provides leadership in curriculum planning, program development, revision, implementation and evaluation, and textbook adoption in assigned instructional areas. Analyzes program data and makes recommendations regarding course and program additions/deletions and consolidation.
In conjunction with VP Allied Health Sciences, institutes processes to assure that all faculty are being appropriately supervised, developed and evaluated. Monitors systems, policies and procedures in order to ensure consistent delivery of programs and services in all assigned areas, across the district.
Coordinates with Deans/Department Chairs in developing priorities that support Blinn’s strategic plan.
Initiates and coordinates instructional research related to the instructional programs and student success areas in collaboration with Institutional Effectiveness and Enrollment Management.
Oversee the faculty evaluation process.
Oversees and monitors the budget process for all assigned areas.
Manages the scheduling process, maximizing efficiencies while maintaining educational outcomes.
Oversees the dissemination of academic calendar, academic catalogs, student handbooks and campus registration bulletins. Effectively and efficiently implements approved course schedule.
Helps identify and secure appropriate institutional resources to support professional development of faculty and staff.
Serves as a member of the college executive committee and other committees/councils as assigned.
Performs other related tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
Five years of experience is required, including:
1. Administrative leadership in a community college, higher education institution, and/or related environment.
2. Demonstrated experience in educational program and/or curriculum design and development, budget planning, or faculty selection and development.
3. Two years full-time teaching experience in higher education, with a thorough understanding of the teaching/learning process.
4. Experience with accreditation
Demonstrated visionary leadership, supervisory and managerial abilities in previous positions and an understanding and commitment to the mission of the comprehensive community college with a focus on quality, student success and program and curriculum development.
Demonstrated knowledge of Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) policies governing colleges and of federal and state laws affecting community colleges, including familiarity with institutional accreditation process and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
Experience in developing and enhancing faculty skills through effective evaluation and through support of faculty development programs.
Ability to make timely decisions appropriate to the situation, circumstances and facts at hand and to meet deadlines for assigned reports and projects.
Knowledge and ability to develop and implement applicable policies, procedures and educational administration.
Strong commitment to innovative teaching and learning while willing to pursue the potential of technology to support teaching, learning and the delivery of instruction, to include on-line courses.
Ability to listen, understand and respond positively to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, regulatory agencies or members of the academic community.
Ability to create a team–oriented climate and develop and support relationships with compassion and sensitivity while demonstrating a cooperative, professional attitude.
Ability to interact effectively as a leader or as a member of a team and work collaboratively with others to present information to faculty, academic and campus leaders or public groups while encouraging and fostering a collegial work environment and working effectively with a diverse community.
Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office and Windows software, integrated software systems and related instructional technology.
Skill in planning and organizing as well as ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and excellent spelling, grammar and editing skills.
Ability to safeguard sensitive or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosures.
