Director of Athletics

Bergen Community College, the third largest college in New Jersey, serving a diverse student body on its suburban campus, has a leadership opportunity for a Director of Athletics.  The Director of Athletics will be responsible for overseeing the Division III athletic department which sponsors 13 men’s and women’s sports competing in the NJCAA Conference.  Responsibilities will include day-to-day operations, supervision, evaluation and coordination of the Athletics Office including but not limited to developing, leading, integrating and supporting a premier athletic organization that is a committed partner with the college community; strategic planning to include facility development, financial self-sufficiency and fundraising, a sports information and marketing program and recruitment/retention/promotion of student athletes and athletic personnel; creating and promoting an environment where integrity, ethics, diversity and equity thrive; monitoring student athletes academic progress; ascertaining compliance with Title IX regulations; maintaining student athletes records; supervising the hiring and payroll of coaches and assistants; supervising the scheduling of intercollegiate athletic events that occur on and off-campus; ensuring efficient and prudent use of athletic budget; preparing quarterly and annual reports; performing other duties as assigned.

Required: Master’s degree or a higher degree in counseling, education, sports psychology, kinesiology, or related area.  Minimum of three (3) years of experience developing, monitoring or coaching in a comprehensive, diverse athletic program in a higher education setting.  Must have full knowledge and understanding of FERPA.  Must have demonstrated knowledge of software packages and technology in the area of student data management.  Must have understanding of the community college mission and open door access policy; excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to demonstrate a professional demeanor at all times.  Must be able to work with a diverse population.
