Executive Director of Human Resources
Regular, Full-Time, Contract Position
The Executive Director for Human Resources works under the direction of the Vice President for Finance and Operations and is responsible for developing and executing organizational human resource strategy. The Executive Director ensures the organizational human resource strategy aligns with the Strategic Direction of the college. The Executive Director develops and executes policies and programs in eighteen Human Resources key processes including strategic planning, workforce and job development, recruitment and selection, employee development and training, performance management, compensation and benefits, labor relations and collective bargaining, employee health/wellness and safety, recording keeping, human resources information system and metrics management, process documentation management, and all other HR related functions. The position ensures policies, procedures, and programs are consistently administered, aligned with organizational goals, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Executive Director champions organizational initiatives such as sustainability, diversity, and customer service by supporting them with HR key processes. The Executive Director ensures the HR system is effective and efficient in its design and operation, and functions as the primary HR resource for organizational leaders by providing guidance, advice, and assistance in managing the organization's workforce. The Executive Director embraces and promotes a customer-centered HR philosophy by utilizing evidence-based performance metrics to evaluate key processes and initiate changes in order to ensure accountability for all HR key processes. To ensure compliance with federal and college requirements, some mandatory training must be completed for this position.
Master's degree in human resources administration, public administration, business administration, accounting, or closely related field. Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible human resources experience with at least 5 years of that experience being in a mid (500 employees) to large (over 1000 employees) organization and minimum 5 years as a senior level human resources professional. Experience in higher education required, with experience in a community college setting preferred. Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification, or the ability to attain certification within one year is required. Experience in collective bargaining preferred. Ability to relate to and interact with a non-traditional diverse employee and student population.
Strong written skills, including proficiency with essay and technical writing required. Strong interpersonal, team, and negotiation skills required. Ability to field inquiries and complaints in a positive and professional manner required. Proficiency with basic mathematical equations, and proficiency with the development, interpretation, and presentation of basic statistical data required. Working knowledge of HRIS/HRMS required.
