Montgomery County Community College (MCCC), located in suburban Philadelphia, with campuses in Blue Bell and Pottstown, Pennsylvania, seeks a new Dean of Arts and Humanities. Joining a progressive and innovative academic leadership team, the Dean will assume leadership of a newly reorganized division that includes associate degrees, certificates, and workforce development programs in the areas of communication, dance, digital audio production, digital broadcasting, English (developmental and college level), English as a Second Language, fine art, liberal studies, music, philosophy, public relations, reading (developmental and college level), strategies for college success, theatre arts, and world languages and culture. The new Dean will be responsive to emerging issues, trends, and community needs, and will advance the College’s student success and workforce development goals, as well as the College’s regional and national reputation as an innovative leader.
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, the new Dean will provide visionary leadership while supporting students and faculty in meeting the College’s student success and workforce development goals. The Dean will be an important liaison for the College with business and industry partners, private funders, grant agencies, university leaders, and K-12 educators for enhancing and creating essential partnerships to support student success, workplace readiness and placement, and to secure alternative funding to support the launch of new initiatives. The Dean will play a leadership role in integrating credit and non-credit workforce programs to offer students clear pathways to meet their goals. The Dean will also contribute to the development of the College’s strong online course and program environment and work to strengthen credit and non-credit program planning and assessment efforts.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a mature academic professional with teaching experience at the post-secondary level and possess an understanding of the mission of the College. Leadership and strong communication skills, a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning in and out of the classroom, and experience with, or aptitude for, working with representatives from business, industry, education, and agencies in the identification of vocational and general education programming are necessary for the new Dean. Experience in long-range planning and outcomes assessment and a willingness to work within the College’s strategic plan and quality improvement programs are also essential. The successful candidate must possess strong personal qualities of honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, and creativity. A master’s degree is required for this position, while a doctorate is preferred.
