Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has initiated a search to select the next President of South Central College. South Central College (SCC) is a comprehensive community and technical college with campuses in Faribault and North Mankato, Minnesota located 80 miles south of Minneapolis. The region is rapidly diversifying, making recruitment and retention of students and faculty from diverse backgrounds a high priority for SCC. South Central employs 110 full-time faculty members, 70 adjunct faculty members, 150 staff members and 265 hour-based custom training faculty. South Central serves 6,500 full-time, part-time and online students annually. The college offers over 50 career and professional majors in addition to transferable liberal arts and sciences education. SCC delivers certificates, diplomas, liberal education courses that lead to 4-year degrees (A.A.) and career-related degrees (A.A.S., A.S.), that prepare students for careers in agriculture, automotive service, business, construction, culinary arts, graphic communications, information technology, health, manufacturing, and engineering technologies.
South Central College is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system. The MnSCU system includes seven state universities and 24 two-year community and technical colleges. It is the fifth largest higher education system of its kind in the United States. The President serves on the MnSCU system Leadership Council, which consists of the Chancellor, the presidents of the colleges and universities, and members of the system cabinet. As a member of the Leadership Council, the President will contribute to the governance of the system; work to promote, enhance and protect the reputation of MnSCU; and collaborate to achieve system-wide strategies, goals and objectives. Reporting to the MnSCU Chancellor, the President of South Central College serves as the chief executive officer of the college and is responsible for and directs the operation of the institution through instructional and operational administrators. The President is responsible for leading the institution’s faculty, staff and students in accomplishing the institutional mission and vision of the college. As the leader and chief administrator of SCC, the President exercises broad responsibilities for all aspects of the academic, student, financial, development and administrative dimensions of the college, within the multi-institution system.
The ideal candidate should possess progressively responsible experience in higher education administration or other extraordinary leadership experience at a large complex organization. This candidate also should have an appropriate combination of education, training, and experience that includes extensive expertise in program and curriculum development, fundraising, government relations and legislative processes, accreditation processes, and budget and fiscal management. A terminal degree is preferred.
