Riverland is a regional comprehensive community college inspiring learning for living through a personalized educational environment. The Riverland region is located less than 100 miles south of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area, offering both the advantages of a large community and the charm of a small town environment. The region has a growing diverse population as business and industry seek to create a workforce that reflects their national and global markets. Riverland Community College serves more than 10,000 students annually through its campuses in Albert Lea, Austin and Owatonna, Minnesota. Riverland offers students more than 50 career programs through a wide range of credit-based educational opportunities as well as non-credit courses in liberal arts and sciences, farm business management, nursing, human services, business, computer technology, law enforcement, and other popular programs.
Riverland Training and Development, a division of Riverland Community College, works with more than 450 companies and organizations across the region and online to strengthen business, industry and public safety organizations through consultation, program development and customized training solutions. More than 350 Riverland courses are offered either entirely or partially online, providing students access to courses and support across the globe. Currently, more than 2,500 Riverland students are completing certificates, diplomas and degrees entirely online. The President reports to the Chancellor of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system. The MnSCU system includes seven state universities and 24 two-year community and technical colleges. It is the fifth-largest higher education system of its kind in the United States. The Riverland Community College President serves as chief executive with responsibility for leading the institution’s faculty, staff and students in achieving the institutional mission and vision of the College. A team-oriented leader, the President is responsible for directing all activities and functions of the college in conformity with MnSCU board policies and federal and state regulations; or expanding partnerships with all segments of education, businesses, elected and appointed state and local officials, and other state agencies; and is a key contributing member of the communities served by Riverland. The President serves on the MnSCU system Leadership Council, which consists of the Chancellor, the Presidents of the colleges and universities, and members of the system cabinet. As a member of the Leadership Council, the President will: contribute to the governance of the system; work to promote, enhance and protect the reputation of MnSCU; and collaborate to achieve system-wide strategies, goals and objectives.
The ideal candidate should possess progressively responsible experience in higher education administration or other extraordinary leadership experience at a large complex organization. This candidate also should have an appropriate combination of education, training, and experience that includes extensive expertise in program and curriculum development, fundraising, government relations and legislative processes, accreditation processes, and budget and fiscal management. A terminal degree is preferred.
